Migrant Workers in Taiwan

Survey for Migrant Workers in Taiwan

According to statistics from the National Immigration Agency, as of 2024, the number of migrant workers in Taiwan from Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand has exceeded 810,000. We need to do our part to support these many migrant workers and immigrants who have come from afar to work in Taiwan in order to support their families. We are called to help them navigate work-related difficulties and challenges, and to provide spiritual and emotional support so they can live and work with peace of mind in this land.

The Hsinchu Migrants and Immigrants Service Center, Hope Workers’ Center, and Vietnamese Migrant Workers and Immigrants Office of the Catholic Diocese of Hsinchu have long been committed to serving and caring for migrant workers and immigrants. Their services include mediation and counseling for various labor disputes.

In light of the increasing number of missing migrant workers in Taiwan, we will collaborate in 2025 with professors and experts from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University and National Chung Cheng University to carry out this research project on migrant workers. The goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the living and working conditions of migrant workers, as well as their views and opinions on employers, labor conditions, and recruitment agencies.

Through this survey, we hope to uncover the underlying reasons behind undocumented migrant workers, and to share the findings with the public to help promote a healthier and more informed society.
